Thyme Bar
Located just a few metres away from Madison Square Park underneath Patisserie Chanson on W 23rd Street is this actual prohibition-era cellar that once was home to a secret gambling hall. This trendy underground hideaway now offers an indulgent experience with its dark and cozy decor, extravagant cocktails that push the boundaries of mixology, and exquisite small plates and desserts. This place is an all-around exceptional experience and an amazing step back in time.
The Back Room
It doesn’t get more prohibition-esque than sitting in this hidden underground venue that operated during the roaring twenties and is still operating now! The only difference between then and now is that they serve their cocktails in teacups and beers in paper bags for fun rather than inconspicuousness. When visiting this historical treasure, you’ll even get to use the exact secret entrance at 102 Norfolk St that people used nearly 100 years ago!
Please Don’t Tell
This iconic venue is known around the world, mostly because of how much of an adventure it is to get inside! It includes finding 113 St. Marks Place, dealing with some stairs, navigating through a hot dog shop and then going into a telephone booth - in true speakeasy style! And once you find the front door, you’re not guaranteed entry, so it’s a bit of a gamble. But, no risk, no fun, right? From dark leather to exposed walls and a cocktail list that’s so exciting it should be illegal, this New York delight is not to be missed.
