The ultimate hospo solution
If you want your campaigns to feel personal and get desired results, tags and segments are your secret weapons in Liven Engage. Tags let you label contacts based on interests or actions—think “VIP,” “Coffee Lover,” or “First-time Guest.” Segments let you group contacts using live data, so you can send targeted messages that really hit home.
Tags can be added manually or automatically when contacts take certain actions. Segments, on the other hand, pull in contacts automatically whenever they match your chosen criteria—no manual updates needed.
Tags vs Segments: What’s the difference?
Tags and segments both help you organise and target your contacts, but they work in different ways.
Tags are simple labels—like sticky notes—you apply to contacts manually or automatically. Use them to mark someone as a “Happy Hour Fan,” “Takeaway Regular,” or “Gluten Free.” Tags let you quickly identify, filter, and trigger actions for specific contacts, and are often the building blocks for segments.
Segments are dynamic groups built from live data. You set the rules (like “has tag: Weekday Luncher” AND “ordered online in the last 60 days”), and Liven Engage updates the group automatically. Segments help you group contacts in real-time so you can send targeted messages, automate campaigns, and track results based on metrics that matter for you.
How to create tags:
You can create automations to add tags to contacts based on certain actions (for example: “Subscribes to list Receive SMS” > add tag “Text marketing”), or add tags manually by going to a contact’s profile and selecting the right tag. Creating a tag is easy: just go to Contacts > Tags > Create Tag and save it!
How to create segments:
Go to Contacts > Manage > Segments, click “Create a Segment,” and set your rules. Liven Engage will automatically keep your segment up to date as contacts qualify or drop off.
